GSBA TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

The GARDEN STATE BAR ASSOCIATION (GSBA) cordially invites you to apply to be one of our 2023 Scholarship Recipients. The Scholarship will be awarded on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at our 48th Anniversary Scholarship & Awards Gala to be held at Brookdale Country Club in Florham Park, NJ.

The GSBA was created to support African-American and other attorneys of color to gain and maintain permanence in the legal profession in the State of New Jersey. In an effort to give back to the community, over thirty (30) years ago, the GSBA created a Scholarship Fund to help African-American law students attending schools in New Jersey. Traditionally, one student from each of New Jersey’s law schools was chosen to receive a scholarship. However, the GSBA has expanded the scholarship program to permit New Jersey residents attending law schools outside of New Jersey to apply.

In order to apply for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Currently enrolled in a New Jersey law school or be a New Jersey resident enrolled in an accredited law school in another state;

• At the time of submission, be a member of the Garden State Bar Association (Join for free at www.gardenstatebar.org.)

• As of Fall 2023, be a full-time second-year student, a full-time third year student graduating in May 2024, or a part-time second, third or fourth-year student;

• Demonstrate financial need;

• Be significantly involved in law school and community activities that benefit the AfricanAmerican or Black community;

• Submit a Scholarship Application (the PDF is fillable);

• Submit a current resume;

• Submit a Biography (no more than a single page); and

• Submit an unofficial Law School Transcript printed from the Registrar’s Office’s online portal

Deadline: Application materials must be emailed in PDF format to gsbascholarship2023@gmail.com as one submission and received no later than Monday, July 10, 2023 at 11:59pm EST. Applications received after this date will not be considered. All applicants will receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of application materials.

Tentatively, required virtual or in-person interviews with the Scholarship Committee will be scheduled between July 24-27, 2023. All successful scholarship recipients will be notified by email on or before July 28, 2023. Each scholarship recipient will be invited to attend the Gala on August 19, 2023 as a guest of the GSBA.
